Fairwarp is a delightful small village situated on the edge of the six and a half thousand acres of the enchanting Ashdown Forest. Fairwarp spreads along the B2026 from Lampool Corner to Duddleswell with the village centre just off this road down “The Street” where there is a village Green, a children’s play area and a traditional pub “The Foresters Arms”. A market selling local produce is held fortnightly in the village hall, a vibrant venue for village activities and private hire. Although a relatively small community, Fairwarp is a very active one with a number of organisations and clubs and a full calendar of events, including the annual fete held on the Green.
Fairwarp Christ Church is set apart from the village centre within the Ashdown Forest pale, it was known as “The Church in the Forest” as it was supposedly the only church built within the forest boundary. The trustees of the recreation ground which hosts the successful local football team are hoping to build a new pavilion in the near future and bring cricket and other team sports back to the village. Fairwarp is a wonderful starting point to set out to explore Ashdown Forest whether on foot, on horseback or cycling with a welcome break at Duddleswell Tea Rooms for a cup of tea, homemade scone or cake, or lunch and a drink in The Foresters arms.
