On the edge of Ashdown Forest in the village of Maresfield lies the extensive Wealden Bowls Centre.

 

Maresfield, though itself included in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of Ashdown Forest, is only three miles from the town of Uckfield, and has excellent approach roads , the A22 and A26 serving it well.

 

The Bowls Centre has very adequate parking facilities for both private cars and coaches, thus eliminating one of the chief worries of these present times - where to park.

 

The Bowls Club offers a wide range of competitive bowling on either indoor or outdoor rinks, making it an ideal venue for the sport whatever the weather situation may be.

 

The indoor season starts in mid-September and continues until late April, and during this time parties or groups of bowlers are welcomed to play matches against the Home Club. All these matches are, naturally, by appointment.

The indoor rink is constructed on a wooden base with a carpet speed of 17 seconds, and is a six rink area.

 

Always bearing our temperamental weather in mind, the outdoor rink is open from late April until mid-September. This rink, too, is a six rink area, and it has an outdoor carpet speed of 16 seconds.

Once again, groups or parties of bowlers are welcome by appointment.

The outdoor green is located in a pleasant and sunny spot in the Club's grounds, and has plenty of bench seats together with every other outdoor facility that  teams could wish.

 

Apart from these two rinks the Club also offers a Restaurant and Bar Area, very well appointed and with excellent service.

The Restaurant can accommodate up to 60 guests at one sitting and offers sandwiches, snacks or full meals at reasonable prices.

Set or match meals can be provided by prior arrangement, and for the outdoor season Barbeques can be provided.

The well-set up and provisioned Bar offers a wide range of beer, spirits, wine and soft drinks at Club prices, and is normally open at lunch times and in the evenings, and is always open when match meals are served in the Restaurant.

 

All in all, the Wealden Bowls Centre, with its attractive premises, provides an ideal venue for Bowls sportsmen and sportswomen of all ages. The Club facilities are moderately priced.

 

Should teams visit from a distance and wish to stay overnight to enjoy the Club and the beautiful countryside of the Ashdown Forest, an excellent Inn is situated in the centre of Maresfield's pretty Conservation Area.
